It depends where you are starting and where you are finishing.

For example, you can go from New York City to Los Angeles.
There is no direct train from NYC to LA. However, the leg from NYC to Chicago takes about 19 hours. Then the leg from Chicago to LA takes another 43 hours. So if you depart NYC's Penn Station at 4:00pm on April 30, you will arrive in Los Angeles at 8:15am on May 3. It's quite a trip!

That trip costs $379.
