The word is TOTALLY contagious. I am way too old to be using Awesome in regular conversation - there is a 20 year old that works at my hubby's office and I really like her - she is very good at what she does and is always smiling. The only thing is that she says AWEsum ( long AWE short sum ) alot. After I talk to her for even the shortest amount of time I find that I am saying awesome. It has been a couple of years now and I am still trying to shake Awesome from my vocabulary. Once it gets in there it is hard to get rid of.
I guess there are less awesome words I could be using. So thanks for the question and have an awesome day!

Not sure how awesome @katharine2501 is yet - looking forward to reading her questions and answers ( since they will obviously be awesome ) But I do know about Awesome. The word is TOTALLY contagious.
