Check out www.beatthat.com, they pay people to find the best deals on electronics and submit them. I made over $400 in two months just doing it a few hours a week. Some people pull in 2k or more a month.
Mahalo, of course is a way to make some side money as well.
Another is survey sites, I had to go through several before finding any that actually payed. Try www.your2cents.com , I usually get atleast a few dollars a month from them, sometimes over a hundred. They also occasionally send you offers for product testing and other offers that pay as much as $50 each.
If you have a website or blog, you should get set up with an advertising company that will pay you per click, that can generate varying amounts depending on how many people visit.
Those are a few I can think of right now, hope those help.

Also there are sites that pay you to do specific tasks like posting something on a forum or writing comments on some blogs, finding a logo or pic for a particular brand and uploading on some site... or similar stuff, and there are amount specified for each tasks. tasks are easy, small and simple but the payout is not very huge per task, so you might have to perform multiple tasks to get some substantial income.

Very helpful. This is more along the lines of what I was looking for. Especially the beatthat.com, since I enjoy looking for deals online. Thank you!

Try selling stuff on ebay or craigslist. Just about anything will sell. I do ebay part time and I also work on a site called Ciao where they pay me to write reviews.

I like the idea of getting paid for reviews. Every review I have done was for free. I will check that site out and use your referral. Thank you!

That stuffing envelopes thing is always being advertised. And you could do that from home with out too much trouble. You always see them advertised on plastic signs around town make X$ / hour from home.... Good Luck and a speedy recovery!

Stuffing envelopes might be a good option. But I am not very trustworthy of those job postings online or on the street signs. However, if I can find someone that knows a reputable company to work for, then I will be interested. Thanks!

I am going to guess that the telecommuting thing isn't a viable option for what you normally do to earn your living. Working for a telephone help desk, or dispatching taxis or tow trucks might be an idea also. If I had a sure fire answer, I would be working from home myself. Not stuck out in the bush for 3 1/2 weeks at a time.

Unfortunately telecommuting is not an option. I will look into the help desk type jobs and see which ones I can work from home. Thanks!

From what I understand about Social Security disability, you have to be disabled for 5 consecutive months before you can receive benefits. I will be looking into SSI if my recovery takes longer than expected.
I am receiving Short Term Disability Insurance from work, which will help a lot - but looking for ways to supplement my income and keep myself busy as I recover.
Thanks!

There are freelance opportunities available which are genuine, but u have to bid for them and compete with the wages and hourly rates. Also there are few home based transcription work, where in you get the data in images or audio form and u need to convert them back in text form and upload. Here also you'd be competing against people from countries where the hourly rate of pay is a lot lower, so don't expect huge wages for such jobs, but still it might be good enough to start with.
