ATT as on a stereo: Attenuation is a decrease in the amplitude level of output sound.
ATT in football is attempts.

And AT from the old days of analog modems meant ATtention. Some people would confuse the command and write it as ATT and assumed it had something to do with the phone company, AT&T.

AT&T stands for:
American Telephone and Telegraph Company.

This link has some interesting history on the company and how telephone companies emerged and merged.
