I am not a doctor, but your doctor might be recommending this if you have allergies or otherwise, a previous allergy to CT contrast or asthma. These conditions can increase the likelihood that you might react to the CT contrast dye and these medications are commonly given as a preventative measure if the possibility of such a reaction is suspected. I have included some websites below with some additional information:

A CT scan that involves radiopaque contrast containing iodine can cause an allergic reaction. If you have a known allergy to shellfish or contrast mediums, your doctor may prescribe a medrol dose pack and diphenhydramine to prevent or minimize an allergic reaction.
Some people with allergies have very immediate acute reactions and others have delayed reactions that progress over hours. It is important to understand your allergies beforehand and not be alone for several hours after the procedure in the event more urgent care is needed.

I was thinking that, beyond the allergy, the Benadryl/Prednisone will probably relax you. If the CT scan involves sitting still inside a can, that can be anxiety provoking and these drugs might be a good alternative to Valium.
As it is, at my work we have patients getting MRIs for procedures on a daily basis, no-one I know would prescribe benadryl or prednisone (a steroid) to calm someone down for an MRI. Ativan or Valium work much better at soothing any anxiety. The benadryl might make you drowsy but would not calm you down and while prednisone works very well to decrease swelling and modify immune responses, it is more likely to make you hyper than calm you down.

The allergy explanation seems really plausible as both Benadryl and prednisone are two of the best allergy medications around. Benadryl works to block histamine and prednisone reduces and prevents inflammation.
(Have horrible allergies, have taken this stuff.)
