A Turkish Airlines (THY) Boeing 737-800 aircraft (registration T-CJGE) crashed while on approach to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport this morning, February 25, 2009. THY Flight TK 1951 was arriving at Amsterdam on a scheduled passenger flight from Istanbul at the time of the accident. According to information provided by the airline, there were seven crew members and 127 passengers on board at the time of the accident.

The Boeing 737-800, en route from Istanbul to Amsterdam, broke into three pieces when it hit the ground about two miles short of a runway at Schiphol Airport at 10:31 a.m. local time. The fuselage split in two, close to the cockpit, and the tail broke off.
But the wreckage didn't burn and scores of people walked away from it."
"A Turkish pilots' group claims turbulence from a large plane landing at Amsterdam airport may have caused the crash of a Turkish Airlines flight in which nine people died.
Turkey Airline Pilots' Association Secretary-General Savas Sen said late Friday that a large Boeing 757 had landed at Schiphol Airport two minutes earlier. Sen said that plane most likely created "wake turbulence" that hampered the Turkish aircraft's landing."
