This is a really interesting question. I think playing games--or sharing any activity--with people of high morale character will help people grow and find their strengths. It doesn't matter if it's poker, scrabble or ping pong--play with the right people is great for development.

There is a lot of research on the following types of play and development:

1. cognitive development games (for children)
2. team building games (for adults)
3. brain development games (for adults and children).

I found a long list of personal and social development board games at eNasco (i've never heard of them before).

As you can see they include topics like expressing yourself, consequences for teens, manners, careers, personal development, etc.

Jigsaw Puzzles: patience, visual recognition (color and shape), art appreciation, organization.
