Not yet in my experience. Satellite phones, although ideal because they work anywhere in the world with an open view of the sky, are prohibitively expensive per minute compared to regular cell phones, and generally best only for traveling to remote regions where ordinary cell phones are unreliable, perhaps such as a wilderness expedition.

I agree with Fumbling, satellite phones are quite not cheap. And they have cons as well.
There are many companies who can offer online services for telecommunications like a virtual PBX phone system. I think they're the 1st alternative if you want good communication services.

- Fact Refuted
A virtual PBX system would be an incredibly poor substitute for a satellite phone.
