What do folks think of the new iPhone os v3.0?
RSS
I very much like being able to listen to podcasts/audiobooks at 2x speed (although I don't understand Apple's logic of offering a half speed function, surely 1x, 1.5x and 2x would have been better - 0.5x isn't for accessibility is it?)
Equally the 30 second rewind is very nice. The variable-speed scrubbing is again ingenious - but, in the same way that I'm currently accidentally launching Spotlight every other time I return to the home screen, its going to take some getting used to. What's interesting about the scrubbing is its a very rare occasion where Apple have to put instructions up on the screen to explain to people how to do something - I sense they are fighting a constant battle between keeping the iPhone interface simple and offering better features. I'd have liked a 30 second fast-forward; did they not think there would be any demand, or was it to placate advertisers?
Another feature I really welcome is the addition of a small semi-transparent halo to indicate you have successfully selected the scrubber - before, it often took 2 or 3 attempts to 'grab' it because you tried to move forward or backwards before realising you hadn't made contact. This is even better in landscape mode.
I'm a bit puzzled why they still don't support viewing of shownotes - from an interface point-of-view all you'd need would be a little 'i' logo in the corner to bring the page up. Again, is there some technical reason for not offering them?
Spotlight is nice, and the thing I like about the Voice Memos app is its integration - it syncs back to iTunes *and* you can email the memo, and you can assign it a category, and you can keep recording whilst using other apps (which of course, by design, is a feature no other app can offer).
I agree with christthomson - I don't want to have to shake a device to do something. Maybe the next iPhone will have to have two buttons.
I'd have appreciated the ability to delete all emails at once - if you're using POP3, as I am, then the messages stay on the phone even after you've downloaded them on your desktop Mac - presently you have to press 'Edit' and then delete them all one at a time (unless you know different?)
When sending texts, I'd prefer it if the message box was slightly bigger, and there was a character counter so you could see if you were going into a second message.
Also, one of the most fiddly tasks on the iPhone at present is rearranging applications - someone suggested elsewhere that you ought to be able to do that from iTunes, by dragging the apps around on screen, and then syncing to the iPhone - that would be fantastic.
Oh, and give us a volume control on the headphones please - is it possible to have that as well as the microphone?

Every time I tap inside of a text field, it gives me the option to paste. It would've been better if I had to double tap to do that. Also, when trying to access the undo options, I find myself almost throwing my iPod touch in order to get the undo dialog to pop up.
Other than that, I think it's awesome!

Video and even video editing? That's awesome!
Turn-by-turn navigation? Finally!
Voice memos? Cool, but I don't use it.
Voice control? Also cool, but under used.
3GS (faster speeds)? Now that's what I'm talking about!

I think it's pretty nice. There's only one thing I'm not a huge fan of, and that's some of the copy-and-paste functionality. Every time I tap inside of a text field, it gives me the option to paste. It would've been better if I had to double tap to do that. Also, when trying to access the undo options, I find myself almost throwing my iPod touch in order to get the undo dialog to pop up.
