I think the odds have become better, since double sun systems having planetary-forming disks have been observed. Previously, it was thought that only single sun systems had the potential to form planetary-forming disks.
Also to consider, if you know the variety of life on this earth, consisting of lots of very adaptable single organisms that can live on strange substrates, such as sulfur and nitrogen, and can live in extreme environments, such as volcanic vents on the ocean floor, then it is highly possible that these types of life forms could be found throughout the universe in a number of systems.
