Immediately? No.
Superstition and popular beliefs aside, there's nothing to indicate otherwise.
Without going into all the reasons for how assured I am of my answer, a casual reference to Biblical information on the state of the dead is in direct alignment with my perception of whether or not there is life immediately after death.

Is there life after death for the living? Meaning how do we get along after someone dies? Yes, I believe there is life after a death. Grieving is part of the process of letting go and moving on.
For me, a sure knowledge of what has happened to my loved one (see first part of my answer) helps immensely with finding my own peace with the event.

If you don't subscribe to any particular belief system it is still possible to make up what you want about it even if there's evidence or no evidence to the contrary.

The LDS religion and Jesus Christ teaches there is life after death. We all have the right to believe in a higher power and the promise of that higher power. All men will die, the wicked go to spirit prison, the righteous to paradise. Eventually, everyone will be resurrected and receive an immortal body, of various glories dependant on righteousness.
In the Bible, shortly after Jesus was resurrected, he appeared to his disciples and they thought he was a spirit. Jesus told them that a spirit did not have a body of flesh and bones. Others were resurrect at that time.
On a personal note, I think the hope of life after death gives meaning. Why should I live a full and rich life, only to have it be annihilated by death? I believe in Jesus Christ and have hope in his promise.

I kind of think it should be the other way. Good people should be born again and the bad ones, done for ever, no more chances. We wouldnt need a lot of prisons and people can live in peace. You can go on with the advantages.

Are you serious??? This is the kind of thing one expects to hear from university sophomores who are sitting around getting loaded on Saturday night. Unfortunately, there is no answer to this question while we are still breathing. I will forward to you my favorite answer to this inquiry. I have heard it many times and it has always seemed to me to address the real question here. "Nobody gets out of this life alive." As to coming around again, the Hindus feel that we will spend more than one lifetime here. So do the religious Buddhists. The Christians advocate a life after death in paradise. The Muslims claim the same thing. As noted earlier, nobody has come back to answer the question. And, there is no way to get any information while here and breathing. So, You pays your money and you takes your chances, leachypeachy.

There are a few ways to describe death. NDE's(near death experiences), occur when a person is brain dead. Several studies show that people have consciousness in this level of death. Of course more study will always be needed on this subject.
