It looks like December 21, 2012 is the date - according to Maya Civilization. Maya calendar suggests that there will be some strange celestial alignments taking place on 21/12/2012. Unfortunately, Christians made their mark once again and burned everything Maya civilization has written so we don't have full accounts of their knowledge.

Maya's did not predict the end of the world or anything, the date just symbolizes an end to the largest cycle known in the Mayan calendar. After that date the cycle starts over, the Mayans usually associated this changeover to a new cycle with change overall in the universe that is the only discussion. But even though the inventors of the zero were very precise and more advanced than any other culture during its time I think we have nothing to fear in 2012.

But if it really does end, how will you pay someone who bets you their money? Very clever bet indeed.

The Mayans have left evidence that they believed that the world will end in the year 2012 on December 21st. However, I do not believe that this will happen, as the only evidence that this will happen is that they did not make their calendar beyone this date. I believe that this is simply because they got sick of continuing their calendar. After all, we can't expect them to make a calendar that continues on for eternity, can we? Sir Issac Newton also predicted that the world will end in 2060, but I doube that will happen either.
