In most countries, giving firm handshake is considered rude. A limp handshake is the norm. (For instance in Latin America) People in some countries do not believe in body contact when greeting. Perhaps that person is from a country or culture for which a firm handshake is not a custom. We do live in a society that is quite multicultural.
I think you should go beyond the judgment based on this one criteria and look at the whole person.
It is easy to jump to first conclusions. Just be aware that they are only first impressions.

It is not a good thing to judge someone until you have gotten to know them. Talk to the person, spend some time with them, get to really know them beyond first impressions. Then make your judgment based on all the facts.
In other words "Never judge a book by it cover" or in this case "handshake"!

just shake in a way that feels natural, if you or the recipient start reading into it too much then there is something wrong somewhere, after all it is just a greeting.

Yes definitely! What is important about a person is not how they look or if they have a weak handshake. What is important is what the person is like on the inside. It is not a good thing to judge someone until you have gotten to know them. Talk to the person, spend some time with them, get to really know them beyond first impressions. Then make your judgment based on all the facts.

It would be wrong to judge someone based on their handshake, but many people do. When you first meet someone, shaking their hand is almost always the first thing you do. At that point, that's all you have to judge them by besides their looks and attire. It is important to have a good, firm handshake, but never judge someone because their handshake is lacking.

How would you judge him if he had crushed your hand? Over compensating, hot head, jack ass? not all handshakes work out right, having large hands myself I find that I end up engulfing the other persons hand, and having a muscular build I always try to be a little more gentle in my approach to a handshake :) just shake in a way that feels natural, if you or the recipient start reading into it too much then there is something wrong somewhere, after all it is just a greeting.
