Why are animal shelters generally closed on Sundays and Mondays?

I just want to know. I recently trapped a stray kitten over the weekend but
when I went to take it to the shelter I found they were all closed both
Sunday and Monday.

Probably so that the shelters can keep their employees at a 5 day work week while still accommodating people on one weekend day.
