Well, as Julia Ormond said to Harrison Ford in "Sabrina", "Paris is always a good idea". Personally, I have only been there in May and it is gorgeous. However, Christmas would be a great time to visit as well and I can only imagine how pretty the city is in the fall. I do think flights and hotels tend to be less expensive in the fall, so that may be a consideration.
I also suggest you confirm the operating hours of any attractions you plan on visiting. For example, it turned out the Louvre was closed on Tuesdays when I was there in 2005, so I went to the Musee d'Orsay instead. Also, bear in mind it stays light very late in during the late spring and summer months, so if you plan to see the lights of the Eiffel Tower you might have to go after 10 p.m..
