Yes, I have used TurboTax, and I'll use it again this year, because it's easier than using the IRS provided instructions and forms. It's vastly cheaper than having someone else do your taxes for you. If you made under $40,000 last year, look for a group in your area providing free tax preparation. The IRS provides training to these volunteers. You are still responsible in case of an audit, but the volunteer will go through the IRS provided software for you, and e-file for you as well.

I use it every year (last year I even tried TaxCut and went back to Turbotax). There've been years when I bought or sold houses, had more than one job, or unemployment, or large stock gains. All special circumstances that make you wonder if you should do your taxes yourself, all handled just fine with a piece of software -- the price of which you can deduct from your taxes!

Yes, it's very simple and effective, especially if you use Quicken or Quickbooks. All your accounting information can be imported from these programs.

If you just have a simple 1040 and no business returns to file, the IRS provides a list of free federal e-file sources (if your adjusted gross income is less than $56K) here:

http://irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html

These walk you through the process much like TurboTax, but will charge you to efile your state return. They may allow you to print your state return so you can snail mail it, however.

If you have a simple business return to file, TurboTax Home and Business is great. It costs $70-80 and really simplifies the process.
