Hopefully this will work for you, but this symptom has also been showing up often as a prelude to the E74 error. This is most likely a failure of the 360's scaler chip, but can also be caused by gpu failure.
Lastly, check your power supply 'brick'. Try to minimize interference, (wires/cables running close together) and make sure the power supply is ventilated, and not laying flat on carpet. Try using different power outlets, if using a power strip, try plugging directly into the wall socket.

According to one poster, it may have to do with improperly grounded wiring.
I hope this info helps! :)

Red lines on screen when using xbox 360?
I just purchased a 1080p HDTV and connected my first gen xbox 360 via
component to play hidef to the TV. When there are loud noises in games (or
in movies I stream from Netflix in HD) red lines flash on the screen. Is
the an Xbox problem? TV problem? Connection problem? Any thoughts or ideas
on what this could be?
Thanks

I hadn't thought about trying the 1080i setting, I wonder if that would fix the issue... the visual difference would be minimal (if noticeable at all)

Again, the xbox is a first gen... I had it 2 weeks before they were released for general sale, so it does not have HDMI and is far past the warranty at this point.

This could be a number of things, but definitely start with alternate settings on both your tv and 360, trying different resolutions, etc. Hopefully this will work for you, but this symptom has also been showing up often as a prelude to the E74 error.
