Free alternatives to Pretty Link Pro?

Pretty Link Pro is a pretty neat Wordpress plugin but it costs $97. Sorry no link to it but if you google it, you will see it is a redirection plugin with some extra stuff (a banner, twitter badge etc) thrown in. I know there are many redirection plugins available, but can anyone suggest a good free (as in speech, and beer) plugin that replicates all, or most of the features of Pretty Link Pro? If not, how about a list of plugins that could work together to accomplish the same thing?
Tip for best answer: M$10.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

So it's like a hodge podge of other various WordPress plugins about links. Here are some worth looking at:

Search RegEx -> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-regex/
Lets you search and replace across all of the content on your blog. You could use this to change links or make sure a specific word is always linked to one page etc.

Bird Feeder -> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bird-feeder/
Does one thing and one thing only; it publishes a tweet when you publish a blog post. You can customize the message that goes out too!

Broken Link Checker -> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/broken-link-checker/
Provides a tab so you can see all of the links on your site that are broken or lead to redirects. Could be handy for what you want to do.

Twitter ReTweet -> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/twitter-retweet/
Twitter ReTweet provides a function that displays a ReTweet link which gives visitors the ability to ReTweet the current post; supports custom URLs (perfect for Google Analytics Campaign Tracking).

Short URL Plugin -> http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/short-url-plugin/
allows you to create shorter URL's and keeps track of how many times a link has been clicked. It's useful for managing downloads, keeping track of outbound links and for masking URL's.

And here is a tutorial on how to do A/B testing in WordPress using the Google Website Optimizer tool -> http://carsonified.com/blog/business/how-to-do-ab-testing-in-wordpress/

All of these are completely free! Is there anything else Pretty Link Pro does that I didn't include? It's hard to wade through all of the marketing copy.

If this is your site. I see where you are coming from.

But it looks like this program is in a league of its own and new at the moment. So finding alternatives atleast for me was a dead end.

Also this person tells you how to use the free version. But I will keep digging around for a bit trying to find something for you. Hopefully these links help point you in a better direction.

I don't know this might be something you want to check out too. http://www.shauninman.com/archive/2009/08/17/less_n

I would read through it though to make sure it is what you might need or use.

Your are right it is a pretty slick addon. Your also right that 97 dollars is way to high for an addon. So can't blame you for not wanting to use it. I sure wouldn't want too either and would be doing the same thing you are. Finding free alternatives. I hope that you get enough free alternatives together you make a site about them. I am still digging around a bit see if I can come up with some more stuff. So what do you think about the things I found so far? Helpful or am I way off base?

I personally did purchase the pro version and love it. I'm just wondering though, how much would you pay for something like this? I mean I understand the free beer, free speech thing but these plugin authors should make some money if they spend a lot of time on these things don't you think?

Yes that's mine. I agree it's a pretty slick plugin and while I disagree with the cost, what I really disagree with is the way she was promoting it. I am hoping to provide alternatives, instead of just complaining.

WordPress already has its own URL shortener - wp.me:

Looks like it works pretty well, and its free, as far as I can tell.

Yourls is great. It is free and can run as a stand-alone site or as a wordpress plugin. It has stats, is very lightweight and easy to set up. Short URL is another good option. It is also a free Wordpress plug-in similar to Pretty Link. I hope one of these fits your needs.
