I spent two days in late April in Normandy with my elderly parents, focusing on the D-Day sights. We stayed in Bayeux, which is a 2-hour train ride from Paris. We took a pair of half-day guided tours of the D-Day sites, which are amazing. We picked a tour company who used 8-person minivans, and on one of the days the three of us ended up with a private tour!

We also enjoyed Bayeux itself, there is a 1000 year-old tapastry about William the Conqueror which I thought was going to be pointless but was really interesting, and a very pleasant catherdal and "old town."

My parents are a bit mobility challenged, so we did not do anything else in the area before returning to Paris. If I was alone, I would have enjoyed traveling along the coast to the NW of Bayeux and checking out some of the other cities and sights. The hotel we stayed at also organized tours to Mont Saint Michel, which seemed very interesting.
