AFC: I love the Patriots (grew up 5 minutes from Foxboro) and I'm really excited about having Brady back - unfortunately, I don't think they have the defense to pull it off this year. Pittsburgh is basically putting the same team on the field as the one that won the Super Bowl last year. The Patriots defense just lost too much leadership (Bruschi, Harrison, Seymour and Seau) to recover. I sure hope I'm wrong.
NFC: Green Bay finished 6-10 last year, so I think this is a bit of a stretch, but I think they are ready to take a step forward and others may move backwards a bit. Arizona and Carolina seem to be too dependent on shaky quarterbacks and I don't think New York can pull it together. Green Bay had a ton of injuries in 2008 and lost some really close games (they lost 5 games by 3 points or less). Chicago and Minnesota are going to be tough in their division, but with a healthy team, a quarterback who looks like he's ready to step up and a great pre-season (for their first team offense), this looks to be a great year for Green Bay.
Pittsburgh over Green Bay (though I'm certainly cheering for the Pats!)

I am a New England fan and have been for a loooong time. I have high hopes on the team this year and a lot is riding on the recovery of Tom Brady, to me a healthy Tom Brady would help *any* American Football team in their chances with winning the Super Bowl.
Tom, it's time to get up and play to win.

As far as the NFC, I think it's more open. However, I think whoever represents the NFC in the Super Bowl will have a tough time. I think that the AFC is the better conference right now.

They have some questions and a stronger division to battle against, but I'm a firm believer in the fact that the NFC North winner will be the class of the NFC.

• I like the picks and think you had some great reasons as to why you make your picks. Thanks for the insight!
BTW, I'm a huge Dolphins fan, so I don't really care for the Pats. I'd love to see the Phins repeat as AFC East champs, but I think Brady coming back will put the Pats back on top this season... Good Luck!

I like New England to bounce back with a healthy Tom Brady... In the NFC I like either Carolina or Philadelphia, interesting since they kick off the season against each other. New England will win no matter who gets in for the NFC, barring another season ending injury to Brady.

I think the Giants and the Steelers will play in the Super Bowl. Both have great defences and running games. The Giants lack of a good wide receiver may burn them, but I think their running game will be enough. The Steelers will be the Giants in the Super Bowl.

While it's very difficult to repeat as champion in the NFL, I believe that the Steelers are capable. They lost a few players from last year's team, but I don't think the losses are as bad as the season following Super Bowl XL. As far as the NFC, I think it's more open. However, I think whoever represents the NFC in the Super Bowl will have a tough time. I think that the AFC is the better conference right now.

I still have to continue to say the Vikings. They carry a team that is probably going to have the best run defense and the top running game. So they're going to control the clock very well. When you have a team that can control the clock then it's really down to a QB that can manage the game. Farve for all of his warts is very good at doing just that. They have some questions and a stronger division to battle against, but I'm a firm believer in the fact that the NFC North winner will be the class of the NFC.
