Disclaimer: I'm an extremely casual football fan.

The only reference I could find for an "S" nickname was Doug "Superbowl" Williams.

It may be what you are looking for, as he'd been in and out of the NFL and had gotten the start for Superbowl XXII almost by accident, but wound up being the MVP.

G'day Jacka,

Thank you for your question.

The sources that I have looked at do not show any nickname.

I could not find anything besides the "superbowl" name which carriep mentioned... it is a little surprising how little is out there on this topic

I found one side that said Doug Williams' nickname was "Pocket".

And a forum where someone put: Doug "Superbowl" Williams.

Thanks, all! I'll go with "Pocket" for now. I like that!

Yes on Sweetness. RIP, Walter, the greatest football player ever!

As a lifelong Redskins fan, I don't recall Doug Williams ever having a nickname, at least during his Redskin days. It's possible he had a nickname while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but none that I'm aware of. I asked my friends and family as well and none of them recall any nicknames for Williams. Sorry.
