Why does mint gum seem to make cold water taste/feel even colder?

Menthol in mints sensitizes the neurons that send sensations of "cold" to your brain. Thus, if you suck on a mint and then inhale sharply, the air feels cold because you are temporarily hypersensitive to cold. Cool water seems icy cold after chewing gum for the same reason.
