Nearly all of the calories in corn flakes (93%) come from carbohydrates in the form of starch. Sugar is also a carbohydrate (in fact, starches are basically chains of sugar molecules), and all carbohydrates have the same calorie content by weight. Frosted flakes simply replace one carbohydrate with another, so the calorie count per serving remains the same.
