What was that sauce that the ORIGINAL BK WHOPPER used to put on the burgers in the 60's it's not used now.
They used to cook burgers on the grill ahead of time, then place them in a pan of sauce. That pan was kept on the back of the grill to keep them warm. When they built the whopper, after putting on the shredded lettuce, they would reach over and ladle a spoon full of that sauce on the burger.
BK stopped making Whoppers that way about 1972 and no longer use a sauce.
If any of you older folks, worked at the ORIGINAL BK and remember how that sauce was made, I want to know how to make it. ;o)
I'll pay a $2. tip for the recipe. 2

I have to say, even after researching it - I've never heard of any type of special sauce on a Whopper. They have mayo and ketchup (mustard in some areas, others it has to be requested) and always have. Now, the Big Mac on the other hand, they've got the funky wanna-be thousand island type dressing.

There was a sauce that they used. I watched them make the burger many many times. It was a watery reddish sauce... thin sauce that they had sitting on the back of the grill. They did fix some burgers ahead of time and put them in that sauce. I've never known what it was...I only remember the taste... They were messy burgers... One Burger King that did the sauce this way...was located on Jefferson Davis Hwgy in richmond, va
