It's not quite a traditional "margarita" per se, but it is my variation on the theme:
1 fresh small mandarin orange (or lime)
2 shots of Patron Anejo Tequila
Salt
Ice cubes
Salt the rim of your glass
Cut the mandarin orange into quarters and crush them over the glass
Remove any loose seeds with a fork
Drop the crushed quarters into the bottom of the glass
Fill the glass with ice
add the tequila
Give it a gentle stir or swirl, and then drink
The orange provides the "sweet and sour" flavor component of the margarita, but is not nearly as overpowering so it lets you enjoy the flavor of the higher grade tequila without watering it down or covering it up.
If you try this, it will remind you of a margarita, but will taste more like fine tequila.
If you prefer a more traditional "lime" flavor, replace the mandarin with a fresh lime in the above recipe, and then add a tiny bit of Blue Agave Syrup (a sweetener) to balance the sour.
I pick the mandarins and limes fresh off my trees, and the combination of tree ripened citrus and good tequila is amazing.
