There are two essential pieces of equipment that are irreplaceable in a kitchen the first is the Food Processor. It is amazingly versatile and saves a lot of time (In my case on average 30-40 minutes of prep time and when doing larger parties it could save hours of time depending on the size of the party.) when you consider the amount of time needed to prep food for the dishes needed in a meal. A food processor can, slice (thick and thin), dice, chop, mince, puree, chip, grating, shred, juice, mix and even make dough. It can be used as a coffee and herb grinder. It's an amazing piece of technology and is dishwasher safe.

Food Processor above.

The second invention is the dishwasher. This device has reduced the amount of time needed for clean up by hours and allows you to be able to walk away while it washes. this time can be used to prep other dishes for the meal and or free you up for socialization with out giving you dish pan hands. The modern dishwasher with high pressure water jets and internal sensors can even effectively clean pots, pans, and casserole dishes with ease. They even have the ability to turn food into particles small enough to be easily flushed out with the rinse water. They have high heat drying elements and some offer steam sanitation options. There are even steam dishwashers now.

I grew up in the restaurant and bar industry. I have worked in all aspects of the cooking industry from dishwasher to line cook in both professional kitchens and at home. Though I lack a formal degree for a culinary institution I was trained by an executive chef in a practical hands-on kitchen setting.

I would have to say they are all pretty impressive. A blender is my first favorite that I use from time to time, because I wouldn't know how to make a shake or smoothie without it, or a juicer would be my second favorite. I guess my all time favorite is the microwave oven as my all time favorite, as you can simply just heat something up quickly. For the microwave oven, it saves me like 15 to 20 minutes to cook a pizza, and although it might taste as good, it's certainly convenient for a microwaveable pizza. That's just one example, but there are plenty of others, such as thawing something that has been put in the freezer to heating leftovers from last night.

The most practical is the microwave, but my FAVE is definitely the George Foreman Grill! My wife and I have both lost a lot of weight thanks to that device!
The best part is it cooks your food in literally 4 - 6 minutes!!And it even tastes good!!

Believe me, I was a nay-sayer, I usually cook stritly on my real grill outside, but I was pretty impressed. We use it all the time!

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but for years I told my wife that a microwave was an unnecessary extravagance. DOH!

Appliance/gadget-wise: Coffee grinder/maker. Just put beans and water in and out comes the nectar of the gods! It's truly magic!

Food-wise: The best invention is frozen pizza that actually looks and tastes like real pizza after it's cooked. I remember how awful the first tries at doing this were. Don't get me wrong... I ate it... begrudgingly. Now... in 11 minutes... I have some REALLY good pizza that actually tastes... like pizza!

In my opinion the Kraft company has done amazing work in the field of frozen pizza with the advent of the DiGiorno pizza line. I would call this a premium frozen pizza. It's still a very good product.
