I am a bagel essentialist. None of the new-fangled, maple-cranberry-walnut w/spinach, brie, and pears for me. I like the old standards: plain, sesame, onion, poppy seed, salt or everything. Cream cheese and smoked fish with any combo of onion, tomato, green peppers, cucumber. Oh, and the bagels must, must, must be boiled. Einstein Bros bagels are dinner rolls shaped like doughnuts.
That said, my absolute fave: sesame bagel (fresh, not toasted), cream cheese, *belly* lox (not that wimpy nova crap), onion and tomato.
And without toppings, a salt bagel, straight up. Like a chewy, crackly soft pretzel. Pure snack heaven.
But I have no strong opinions on the bagel question.

Unfortunately for my co-workers, I love garlic bagels. My favorite is a toasted garlic bagel with cream cheese, lox (smoked salmon) and capers. I could eat those things all day. Unfortunately, if I did so I would have such foul breath that I would have no more friends or co-workers.

Wow, they are all so delicious! Cinnamon and raisin is good with either butter or cream cheese, garlic is good with sundried tomato cream cheese, blueberry is good with butter, gosh, I heart bagels! I think I need to get one now!

Oh you have to try the French Toast and Maple Syrup bagel! It's delicious, and yes it does taste like french toast only less soggy than they sometimes are. There's some maple sugar inside so basically all you need is a little butter. But I enjoy eating them plain too. Check it out sometime!

It is hard to beat a 12 grain bagel with herb and garlic cream cheese from Tim Hortons! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3019/2340898482_73b8de677e.jpg
