What is the craziest thing you've ever done with a tortilla?

Have you made anything unusual? play clay objects? cupcakes? bead jewelry???

After checking with her vet, I admit to feeding our pet dal a small piece of a cheese tortilla.

Also set some bits out for a wild possum, because he was in the compost anyway!

Also made a recipe like this with apples and tortillas, but precooked the apple slices, and layered it between tortillas.

They are also great for hot dog or sausage buns for those who don't want a lot of bread.

APPLE TORTILLAS

10 sm. flour tortillas
1 can pie sliced apples (not apple pie filling)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 sticks of butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Place apples on tortillas roll, and place in 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Boil sugar, water, butter and cinnamon. Pour over tortillas and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, basting once. Makes 10 servings.

Here are some great "Shrimp and tortilla towers". Those things are flexible. You can make anything!

Flour tortilla recipe (makes 8)

2 cups flour (all-purpose or bread flour, cake flour should be avoided)

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

3/4 cup warm water

11/2 tsps salt

Mix all the ingredients in a mixing bowl, then turn the dough out onto the counter and knead the dough for about a minute. This isn't like making bread and a minute of kneading is plenty.

Divide the dough into eight rounded balls.

Heat up a heavy frying pan over medium heat. The heavier the pan the easier they are. If you have a cast iron fry pan it is ideal for making tortillas.
