I would use a regular pan - asparagus should only be cooked lightly so it is still firm, in a regular pan, half covered in water for about 10 minutes

Alternatively: place in a small bowl, add a couple tbl of water, cover with plastic wrap and microwave a minute at a time to your desired doneness. For very thick stalks, use a vegetable peeler to remove the tough skin.
