How does traditional Indian food differ from the Indian food we get in restaurants here in the States?

I was brought up with Indian food (having an Indian step-father) and have found that most restaurants are pretty authentic. I think there might be more vegetables in traditional Indian dishes, but have found them to be pretty good.
