HECK YES you can. It's easy and it's yummy just don't put the liquid in from the green beans, and definitely don't put too much liquid in if you are using instant mashed potatoes. Try putting a little less tomato soup in and adding a little more salt, so you still get the tomato taste, without all the liquid. Also you can cook the casserole for a few minutes longer, so that more of the liquids evaporate.

If you don't, you may run into a problem of the pie being too runny. Also, keep in mind that tomato paste may have other ingredients in it that your soup has (based on the type of paste you would usually use), so you may need to add some extra spice to liven it up.

can condensed tomato soup be substituted for tomato paste in a shepards pie?
I have tomato paste and tomato soup but not condensed tomato soup so I was wondering if either could be used instead?

If you're an able cook, then certainly. Simply reduce the amount of other liquids in the recipe, or add more of the drier ingredients, in order to balance it out. If you don't, you may run into a problem of the pie being too runny. Also, keep in mind that tomato paste may have other ingredients in it that your soup has (based on the type of paste you would usually use), so you may need to add some extra spice to liven it up.
