But my dentist said, it can cause TMJ problems if you have a habit of chewing the gum. It will be difficult to correct.Also chewing creates more saliva, which will make you hungrier faster.

Probably not and unless you have sugar free gum, you are going to do more harm than good with the extra calorie intake.

You probably will break even. Research suggest that when chewing gum you burn about 11 calories per hour. At the same time the gum that you chew has about 10 calories. Adding the risk of biting your tong etc. it seems recommended to go without it.
