1) - natural video, the park, the stairs, etc, shot on a camera and edited. This is your background.
2) - 3D animation, babies dancing and skating is created in a 3D software, such as Maya which is widely used in the industry.
3) - the two can be composited in a couple of ways, either your film editing software, such as Avid or Final Cut. Or they can be composited in Adobe After Effects which is the approach most professionals take. Gives more control for the creator.
with Avid or Final Cut you are limited to controlling the 3D objects, (baby in this case)
in Adobe After Effects you have more controls of the 3D object.

Anyone knows how to do 3D integrated into live action footage? Like the ones in the commercials

The final output, such as the commercial posted, has many components. But the general are two wich the composite is made from 1) - natural video, the park, the stairs, etc, shot on a camera and edited. This is your background.
