I have read a book similar to this one, not sure if it's the same one. it's called "Invitation to the Game" It's based in the future, they start playing this game. It's like a video game by some company, they go into this virtual world and try to survive obstacles found in nature.
Later they play the game again but this time it seems more realistic and find themselves in another planet. The game was meant to teach then how to survive in a different world. They are supposed to colonize another planet because Earth is getting too crowded.
I don't think it's the same one but it's very similar. Could it be a book by the author A.KA Applegate? She writes books like that.

Does anyone remember a young adult book about a few teenagers who wake up to find that they seem to be the only people left on the planet?
They meet in New York City, I think, and try to figure out what's happened to everyone. After a while things begin to crumble and eventually it is revealed that they're the subjects of some sort of experiment, and they're not even on the planet Earth at all. They're being tested because they have some kind of psychic powers, and the world they saw was created entirely by their own minds. In the end, the male and female protagonists fall in love and decide not to return to Earth and their families and everyday lives, but to continue creating their own universe. Does this sound at all familiar to anyone?
