I recommend an authentic Guayabera. These linen shirts are acceptable as casual wear AND in white are considered the most formal wear for a man in many cultures.

I am most fond of those from Panama because the material is exquisite. (Panabrisa is the brand.)

Here is a link to a number of guataberas:
http://shop.laepocamiami.com/browse.cfm/2,3.html
Panabrisa is also listed. Expect to pay $85-$100.

Just personal opinion but www.listerouge-paris.com for any style of shirt. Complete control over the process, and they're not happy until you are. Maybe not so casual, but definitely a service to love.

Not looking for the $ just saw the tweet and thought I'd pass my answer on.

For the money, it's easily Brooks Brothers. Their non-iron shirts are well made, classy, classic AND don't need to be ironed. 100% cotton and non-iron? Brilliant. I own several, both barrel and french cuffs.

Armani or Prada, I have a few from Gucci and they dont tend to last that long, although they fit nicely I dont prefer the length of the actual shirt though. being as I have a long torso... I prefer Sean Johns cause of the length. They are crisp and nicely fitted. These could go for a weekend out with the wife/girlfriend... or a weekend getaway to the beach.

hope this helped!

I personally am a very big fan of Brooks Brothers Non-Iron shirts. They are the only shirts I've ever had that actually do not need to be ironed, ever!

You can wash them with your regular laundry and they never lose the creases in the sleeves, and they never have any wrinkles.

They are reasonably priced too, or at least on par with the shirts you mentioned. You can always find them 3 for $199, and if you wait you can usually find an additional 25% off. (That brings them down to $50 each)

If you'd like nicer shirts, look at the Brooks Brothers "Luxury Line." I only have one of them but I really like it, nicer fabric, and really cool buttons. (They run $100-$200 each, again wait until there's a big sale and you can get a good deal.)

The Colombian designer Miguel Caballero. Not only he makes classy clothes (including shirts). They are also bulletproof, so they last long and YOU last longer too. Presidents and very rich people are among his costumers. See the catalog here and get them shipped directly to you:

Mostly he sells jackets, but I know he also makes shirts because there was a national security problem here in Mexico when someone leaked information about the president getting a large amount of shirts.
If you check out the catalog there's an old man modeling a short sleeved shirt called "guayabera", common in the South of Mexico, Cuba and other Latin American countries with tropical weather (like Colombia).
Did you see the other videos, @offthedome?

that video's so fake. the guy getting shot doesn't even flinch. i dont care if the shirt is bullet proof. you'd still feel the impact and at least sway around, if not fall right over, especially from that close range. way to prove that shirt's ability to combat noise and smoke

No. I don't think it's fake. They just cut the real end, when they shot guy begins swearing and all that. Being bulletproof doesn't mean bullets don't harm you. I bet you end up with a bruise the size of plate, but still survive. If you don't trust the video read this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3756738.stm

I'm really amazed of people being amazed because of Caballero's clothes. If you read political Latin American news all the time, there's nothing amazing about it. I would agree if you said that the catalog is awful for a designer who sells clothes to some of the richest people on Earth, but I think it's outdated and also Caballero works only if you call him or visit his boutiques.

"Best" is undefined. Here's my algorithm: go to a shop, get a few shirts, fit them on, and find the most comfortable and the best looking one.

As for quality, it doesn't matter: you can buy 10 cheap ones, or 1 expensive. I prefer inexpensive because I hate to wash them :-)

You can never go wrong with Armani, but I think Thomas Pink is a better shirt for the money. And a sleeper could be the J.W. Nordstrom high-end house brand. They look great and wear incredibly well.

I second the mention of GQ as the America's Test Kitchen for men's clothing. They give excellent advice.

This is based on personal experience, not sources, but:

Longest lasting: I've had good experiences with Gucci, and everyone I know likes Gucci. Even my students (at a fashion high school) wear it. I've heard bad things about Prada from a lot of my students, but I've never worn it myself. I've actually heard bad things about Armani, but haven't had a bad experience with it.

Looks: Crisp and clean like you said: Gucci is pretty good. I really do like Armani, despite what my students say, though the shirts can look pretty ordinary. Prada looks feminine to me.

I've never even heard of Zegna and Hickey Freeman, so I can't help you with those. But Gucci is my final answer, no life line needed.

On a man I prefer Armani, as I also prefer the way their suits wear/look on the body. I actually have been pretty happy with Hugo Boss dress shirts. They look great on and wear well. Since money is not an option just go to Neiman Marcus or Barneys and tell them so and explain what you are looking for. Usually, that does the trick.

Good shirts are tailored. Period. If you want a shirt to go along with a power suit, pre-cut or pre-fab will not cut it. Sons of loyalty and blue-blood only accept shirts out of Savile Row (Westminster, England). I tend to favor tailor over pedigree, here is some famous Tailors

Anto (C.A) // 2 fittings // 3 weeks
Battistoni (England) // 1 fittings
Borrelli (N.Y) // 2 fittings
Charvet (England) // 2 fittings
New & Lingwood (England) // 1 fittings
Seize sur Vingt (N.Y) // 2 fittings
Turbull & Asser (N.Y) // 2 fittings

Okay, I'm going outside the box here. I know, I know...everyone and there mother is going to throw big names at you...Prada, Gucci, Armani, blah blah blah.

My question to you is what is the "best" feature you are looking for? Honestly, I find the dress shirts from "Express" to be the best fit, most fashionable (without 'trying' to look fashionable), and most comfortable. They stay bright, vibrant, and unwrinkled.

They are almost slightly stretchy which make the fit and lay very nice.

My preference fore dress shirts is Joseph Aboud, in terms of cut, style and fabric. However, I haven't really been too happy the way they wear. But that may be because they're usually softer fabrics.

My wife's Grandfather, James Mackenzie Nairn, was a Master Tailor that taught most of the pattern cutters and tailors working in London's Savile Row from the early 1950s to early 1980s. As you could probably imagine, he was an impeccably dressed man (I never saw him wear anything other than a shirt and tie, even around his own home) and he only ever wore shirts made by two London shirtmakers:

T.M. Lewin http://www.tmlewin.co.uk/

and

Charles Tyrwhitt http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/
