Artful Dodger is a reference to Oliver Twist. According to Mahalo's page on Artful Dodger Clothing, "The term 'Artful Dodger' is a British colloquialism for someone who is skilled at avoiding the consequences of his or her misdeeds. The phrase is a reference to Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, in which the character known as the Artful Dodger is a child protégé to the criminal mastermind Fagin."
