I think she makes a statement with each outfit she wears. Her choice of clothing seems to make people like her more, thinking "this woman is real." It also helps that she's one of the youngest First Lady's we've had in our generations. You just can't compare the wardrobe of 62-year-old Laura Bush to 45-year-old Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama wore a white dress designed by Jason Wu to the Inaugural Balls and a golden dress by Isabel Toledo to the Inauguration ceremony. I think EVERYONE tries to make a statement (consciously or unconsciously) with their fashion statement. I think Michelle Obama's statement is... I'm an intelligent, professional, thoughtful person.
