I think she makes a statement with each outfit she wears. Her choice of clothing seems to make people like her more, thinking "this woman is real." It also helps that she's one of the youngest First Lady's we've had in our generations. You just can't compare the wardrobe of 62-year-old Laura Bush to 45-year-old Michelle Obama.

Wearing designs from affordable places gives her instant credibility and likability from many American women.

I think EVERYONE tries to make a statement (consciously or unconsciously) with their fashion statement.

I think Michelle Obama's statement is... I'm an intelligent, professional, thoughtful person.

Except for those shoes... For that, her statement was... "Did NOONE get the memo?"

Great sense of fashion is all about making a statement. Her dress was beautiful, modern and very fitting for her figure and complexion. Michelle Obama is the epitome of a woman that is intelligent, practical and with good taste.
