You can use a facebook app called Nutshellmail. This nifty little app will email you facebook updates as often as you want in an interactive email. Interactive meaning that you can update your status, send wall posts, comment on friends feeds, share stories etc right from within the email!
You can even choose which friends and pages you want included in the email.
Nutshellmail even works for twitter, myspace and LinkedIn and others.

Try this, go to facebook and make a list of the friends that you want to know about, then when you are at your start page you can select the updates of the friends that are in your lists, I don't know if this will work for a week, and certainly, this won't send you an email, but it's a good option.
