Well, I am living where I think the greatest vacation spot is, Costa Rica.
I came here about 3 years ago on a work assignment and was immediately enamored of the county. I knew some Spanish, I was not fluent, but that was not a barrier to my enjoyment of the wonder of the country.
Things I like about it: There are a lot of nice beaches, mostly on the Pacific side. On the southern Caribbean side there are some nice beaches as well, particularly at Cahuita and below Puerto Viejo. There just are a ton more nice beaches on the Pacific Side. Surfing, eco-tourism for turtles, swimming, snorkeling, diving, sport fishing, hot springs, volcanoes, jungles, and night life (I like the dancing and the night life on occasion). The people of Costa Rica are very friendly and most tourist guides speak passable English.
I have even gone to the trouble to make a Mahalo page for one my favorite vacation locations - Tamarindo Beach Vacation - in Tamarindo, CR.
http://www.mahalo.com/tamarindo-beach-vacation
My hobbies include photography and I have many opportunities to take stunning photos. Sometimes I venture to Nicaragua, which is more rural.

The people are really friendly.. I had a great time interacting with them.
And the scenery is just breath taking.. I also visited Loch Ness, went to under ground dugeons...and heard musicians play the Bagpiper...
Also saw some castles in Ediburgh.

Many still have their hiding places. Truly amazing. We read about it in school but never dreamed I would see it in person.

I loved Germany and the "Berlin Wall." Even better was talking to some older folks who lived thru the war and could show me the after effects of the wall in their homes. We really really do not realize how good we have it. Many still have their hiding places. Truly amazing. We read about it in school but never dreamed I would see it in person.
