The study was done by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and commissioned by the Food Standards Agency of the British government. It consisted of a review of 162 published research papers from the scientific literature over the past 50 years. Although some organic foods did contain more nutrients than their conventionally produced counterparts, these differences were not felt to be significant from a public-health perspective.

Critics of the study argue that it ignores the negative/toxic effects of pesticides and other chemicals on food, that many of the research papers chosen for the study are of poor quality, and that previous reports showing the benefits of organic foods were omitted from the study.

This looks like a straightforward, government-funded study. Depending on the attitude of the British government toward science, this could be either a plus or a minus in terms of the study's objectivity.

According to Reuters, Organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over ordinary food, according to a major study published Wednesday.

This study seems to me to be suspect, focusing on the nutritional straw man and ignoring pesticides and hormones. Anyone know anything about the funding source or the scientists that might provide insight into their motives?

• Lots of good information, and the best answer given, though it doesn't quite say what I asked. Of course, I don't know if that information is available anywhere.

I am not sure who funds this but this study is obviously incorrect. In my family we eat a lot of organic foods. Even though it may cost a little more in the long run it is a lot better for you. The added preservatives and hormones in normal food are known to cause health issues such as earlier cases of heart disease in a person and even depression. Msg is in most normal foods and a large amount of this can cause extremely vivid dreams.
