Not in my opinion. I learned this from SimEarth... Mother nature has a way of thinning the herd. If too many people are around, things like famine, war and disease will take care of balancing things out.

I think it's incredibly arrogant of the human species to think that we can somehow destroy the planet.

Until we build the Death Star, that's a little out of our league.

Nature can kick our ass up and down the planet. We've seen floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes raze cities to the ground in ways that no modern weapon can.

If we deplete the resources, the planet equalizes. If we get rd of all the forests, then that land will dry up and flatten, creating great swaths of arid landscape: the perfect breeding ground for dust storms that can choke us and blot out the sun. If we pollute out rivers and lakes, we will only poison ourselves. To think that we can really make a dent in the ocean is a farce. It's the greatest dilution volume known to man.

No. Overpopulation won't destroy the earth. We'll destroy ourselves, and earth will pretend nothing ever happened.

Probably not. Whenever population increases too much, problems arise and help to cull the herd. While we have escaped from natural selection for the most part due to modern technology, there is still disease, war, famine, etc. that eliminate the population. For more information, check out some of Thomas Malthus's work on overpopulation.

I think the question means will overpopulation destroy the environment rather than the rock of the earth itself. The answer is yes if not stopped. Probably a huge amount of damage will be done before overpopulation is stopped. If civilization doesn't stop the population explosion then famine and plague will. But that would be too late to prevent destruction of the remaining forests, wild areas, and wildlife. It can be done, China has shown how. One kid per family or else. But the political will is lacking almost everywhere other than China.

no, human beings will destroy the earth.

As Albert Einstein said:

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
