Non-native species can carry diseases to which native species have no immunity. They can also lack natural enemies in their new habitat or simply outcompete their native competitors. Any of these things can disrupt interspecies relationships which have evolved over long periods of time, and in extreme cases entire ecosystems could collapse as a result.
