That would be a meteor hitting Earth. It happened before, and the effects were pretty devastating, if you believe dinosaurs once ruled the Earth.
A medium-sized meteor hitting Earth would mean the end of humanity, and maybe even life. At the very least, it would change the atmosphere and climate drastically, starting a new Ice Age.
I cannot think of a more devastating natural phenomenon than that.
