Management is necessary. Alaskans have a real independent, pioneering spirit. Many Alaskan's hunt and fish in the spring and fall to stock their freezers in the winter so that they can literally feed their families.
If you've ever seen a pack of wolves run down a baby moose in deep snow and eat it alive, you'll better understand how wolves can decimate the moose population and impact subsitence hunting in the for many Alaskans, especially native tribes out in the bush. Not to mention that the baby moose suffers horribly and for a long time..it's gut wrenching even to the most hardened hunter.
Few states manage wildlife better than Alaska. I know of no one who likes to see a wolf shot from a helicopter but it's either the wolf or the baby moose or the native alaskan.
Mankind is top of the food chain, we are part of the environment, it's as much our land and resources as any other species on the planet and therefore Alaskan's should be able to manage their resources as they see fit.
If you don't live in Alaska I suggest keeping your nose out of their business. If you go up there spouting nonsense, without respecting their culture, you're in for a rude awakening...Alaskan's are very real deal, rough and tumble folks.
