I'm not in favor of forcing anyone to do anything in the name of zero population growth but it is pretty clear that our world would be a better place if we could keep our population stable.
There is some maximum limit to the human population on Earth. It's not possible to know exactly what that is but mother nature has proven that disease, famine, or war will keep us below that limit.
If we could stabilize our population we could work on delivering a steady and secure food supply instead of constantly needing to grow more food. We could also focus on reducing pollution instead of fighting against constantly increasing pollution as population increases.
Our social institutions such as health care and social security could be stabilized at a sustainable and healthy level if we could assure a fairly constant population. (Yes it is true that the U.S. Social Security system specifically would be negatively impacted by ZPG but overall a better and stable system could be designed if we knew that populations would be stable.)
ZPG would not have an immediate impact on anyone, this is the kind of change that would take decades to make a noticeable difference. A kind of planning people are particularly bad at.
