hi, good question. Okay, they do put it in garden fertilizer. Leather soles are slippery, but expensive shoes often still have them.
They also use all the parts of cows and horses that are not fit for human consumption in pet food, yes.
They also make doggie chew toys out of cowhide, rawhide.

I remember always going to a shop called Clarks when I was little for my school shoes, my Mam wouldn't get them from anywhere else. They had to be real leather as well, none of that "plastic leather", as we called it! :p

I sure miss leather shoes. When I was a kid even the soles were leather. What are they doing with all that cow hide these days?
Oh please don't tell me they are feeding it to our dogs and cats!! OR WORSE, they are feeding it to the cows!!!

There's a tanning yard not far from my house, it stinks of you go by early in the morning or towards the end of the day :s I remember always going to a shop called Clarks when I was little for my school shoes, my Mam wouldn't get them from anywhere else.
