Does anyone know what you're supposed to do with batteries when they're dead?

Here is what I've found in this website:
http://www.grinningplanet.com/2004/12-21/battery-recycling-article.htm

"Today's standard household batteries—the AA's, AAA's, C's, D's, and 9-volts that you pick up at the supermarket or drug store—have been re-engineered so that the components in them are of low toxicity, making them safe to dispose of with your normal trash."

"For mercury-containing batteries and button batteries, check out recycling options in your locale using Earth911's handy locator tool, or call them at 1-800-CLEANUP. You can also check with your local government office of recycling or municipal waste."

I would also recommend rechargeable batteries.

In 2001, I bought 32 rechargeable batteries - 16 AA/16 AAA and I havent bought any alkaline batteries since then. I saved a lot of money (need to calculate how much) and also waste.

Edit: Of course I got some alkaline batteries that came with the electronics I bought which I just dont use it, but might use if I need to.

If your local Recycler (Waste Disposal) doesn't have a battery recycling program, order a recycling kit online from the link below!
