Do pine trees grow everywhere? if not where do they not grow?

Pine trees can be found as native plants throughout most of the Northern Hemisphere; the only places they aren't found are at altitudes and latitudes above the timber line and in deserts (the Sumatran pine is found in rain forests along the Equator).

Pines are grown worldwide as a timber resource and have become an invasive species in places such as New Zealand, where Monterey pines make up over 90% of all commercial forests and "wilding" trees are outcompeting native plant species (this same species of pine is increasingly threatened in its native habitat by a fungus which is itself an introduced species).

That is because they cannot grow in a dry soil because they need to associate with a type of fungi.
