Look at the news for a few days in a row. Pretty sordid.
People do a lot of odd things for odd reasons, and killing for grief or jealousy aren't the strangest. They jus aren't usually as eloquent as Shakespeare's characters. He wasn't the first and certainly not the last to make melodramatic moments out of the worse parts of human nature!
(BTW-There was a modernized Othello a few years ago set in a police force that was really good if you've got the time.)
