Why was Charlie hung from a tree, Lost Season One?

Was it an accidently trap or an intentional hanging?

It was intentional. Ethan - one of the others who infiltrated the Losties' camp - kidnapped Claire and Charlie. He really only wanted Claire, but Charlie was with her at the time. Jack and Kate went after Ethan, and Ethan fought with Jack and overpowered him. Ethan told Jack to stop following him or he would kill one of them. Jack and Kate continued to follow after Ethan, and that's when they discovered Charlie hanging from a tree. Kate climbed the tree and freed Charlie. Then Jack did CPR to bring him back.
